Seven New Catalogues Reviewed This Month

This month we review seven new bookseller catalogues. Shapero Rare Books offers a selection of books for the young, that is, children's books. But, don't let your children get their hands on these. They are way too valuable. Dr. Jörn Günther Rare Books presents a selection of Renaissance manuals on perspective and human proportion. They enabled artists to add depth to their flat drawings. The William Reese Company has a collection of 150 years of American history from 1730-1880. There is one item for each year. David M. Lesser Fine Antiquarian Books also has a new selection of rare Americana, mostly from the same time frame, but primarily pamphlets and other ephemeral material.

For those with wanderlust, Maggs Bros. Ltd. has a catalogue of voyages and travel. Be prepared to rough it on these journeys. There are no luxury liners. Or bring some heavy clothes for this one: “The John Bockstoce Arctic Collection Part II” from Patrick McGahern Books. The weather is not fine. Jonathan A. Hill Bookseller presents a selection of Japanese and Chinese Books, manuscripts, and scrolls. Douglas Stewart Fine Books offers a catalogue of “Biblioteca Filipini,” which is to say, a library of Philippine books.
