A Summer Session of Poetry and More from Alexander Rare Books

Alexander describes item 103 as, "The first U.S. and still definitive anthology of concrete poetry, with biographies of over 70 poets and examples from many more." It is difficult to describe concrete poetry as it covers a variety of styles. The most basic characteristic is that words in concrete poetry are more than just symbols of meaning. Their typography is part of their art in the case of visual poetry, or the sounds they make may be part of a sound poem. An Anthology of Concrete Poetry was edited by Emmett Williams, himself a noted concrete poet. This copy is inscribed by Williams, who died earlier this year. $195.
