California Promotional Items from Dawson's Book Shop

Here is an unusual promotion for California. Written in French, English, and German, it is Californie: Illustration pour l'Exposition de Paris, 1900. French predominates as it was prepared for California's exhibit at the 1900 Paris Exposition (Universal Exposition). The Exposition introduced filmmaking and moving stairways (escalators) to the world, as well as highlighting new forms of telegraphic communications. Over 50 million people attended, while most nations (and the State of California) offered exhibits. Item 14. $100.
