Next up is PanoramaderStadtNew-BraunfelsinTexas. This is a two-sheet panorama of New Braunfels, Texas, as it looked in 1847, published in Berlin in 1851. It was created by the artist Conrad Casper Rordorf, and published on behalf of the Adelverein. This was a group of German noblemen who created this organization to promote colonies of German emigrants in Texas. The two most notable ones, which have large German populations to this day, were New Braunfels and Fredericksburg. Item 20. $6,500.
Item 31 is a print of what is probably the most dramatic natural wonder in America: GrandCanyonofArizonafromHermitRimRoad. Thomas Moran's artistic work does justice to the site, if such is possible. It was published in 1912 by the Atchison, Topeka, and Santa Fe Railroad, which hoped to entice tourists to visit the place on their trains. Reese notes that few of these survived in decent condition, but recently a few uncirculated copies were found in the railroad's archives, of which this is one. $6,500.
