Description Fine antiques, books, maps, manuscripts, art.An established business since 1793, the new Bonhams combines the very best that Bonhams & Brooks and Phillips UK have to offer, pooling over 450 years of invaluable experience. They are the world’s third largest auction house.
Scope of Text Bonham's was established in London in 1793 by Walter Bonham, a book specialist, and Thomas Dodd, a dealer in antique prints. It has expanded its offerings over the years to all types of art, furniture, arms, wines, and other collectibles. The house now covers over 70 categories, but still remains a major force in books and related material. Bonham's maintains several locations throughout England. In 2002, the firm purchased Butterfield's, a major American auction house founded in San Francisco in 1865 by former Sheriff William Butterfield. Bonham's is now one of the largest auction houses in the world, and operates offices in the U.S. in Los Angeles and New York as well as San Francisco.
