Portland's Annual Rose City Book Fair Set for June 16-17
- by Michael Stillman
Dates have been set for the annual Rose City Book and Paper Fair. This is a favorite in the City of Roses, aka Portland, Oregon. This year's fair with be the 11th, and will draw 50+ dealers, and an as yet undetermined number of collectors, to Portland. Booksellers and collectors come mostly from the Northwest, with a few from points more distant. This year's dates will be Friday, June 16 and Saturday, June 17.
The dealers will be offering books and related material in a wide range of fields. Among the items offered are rare and antiquarian books, used books, bargain books, ephemera, and prints. There will also be door prizes for the especially lucky. The fair is hosted by the Cascade Booksellers Association, an organization of Northwest area booksellers.
Those who have been to prior fairs will have no trouble locating it. The Rose City Fair will again be held at the DoubleTree Hotel, at 1000 NE Multnomah in Portland, Oregon 97232. Hours for the fair on Friday, June 16, are 2:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. On Saturday, June 17, they are 10 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Admission is a most reasonable $3, and that will go to worthy causes. This year's beneficiaries are The Children's Book Bank and SMART (Start Making A Reader Today). This is Portland's only rare book and ephemera fair, so it will be a long wait if you don't make it there.
