Birds, Maps, and Landscapes from Arader Galleries
The Houston Gallery offers many interesting maps. Included are an early Houston map showing the names of its residents, a 1918 map of the new community of Houston Heights, just north of downtown, and an early plat map of Ingleside, on the north side of Corpus Christi Bay.
On November 10th, at the 1016 Madison Avenue Gallery in New York, the Arader Galleries will be distributing plates from a syndication of John Gould's Birds of Asia. There are 88 shares available at a cost of $8,500 each, which entitle the purchaser to six hand-colored plates from this monumental work printed between 1850-1883. Purchasers will choose their plates based on an order drawn by random. John Gould was one of the foremost illustrators of birds of the 19th century, the European equivalent, so to speak, of America's John James Audubon.
