David Murdoch, D. D.
Was born at
Bonhill in Scotland
Oct. 4th, 1800
At the age of 29 he was graduated at
The University of
Glasgow.
He studied theology in that city with
The late
Ralph Wardlaw, D. D.
Having selected America as the country of
His Adoption,
He landed at New York in the year
1832,
And for several years was a Preacher in
Canada.
Under the auspices of
The London Colonial Miss. Society
Espousing the liberal side in the
Patriot War in 1836,
He was induced to make his home in the U.S.
The successful PASTOR of
Churches in Ballston and Catskill, N.Y.
And subsequently of the 1st Presbyterian
Church in Elmira, he became the
Founder
Of
This Society,
And presided at its organization
Dec, 27th, 1860,
An Affectionate
FRIEND,
A devoted
ASTOR,
And a
Heroic Christian,
He died lamented
June 13th A.D.
