Experiments in the New Bookselling
- by Bruce E. McKinney
An innovative approach to electronic catalogues
This month there are five catalogues in this new section and they are all evidence of the changes underway. Jonathan Smalter of Yesterday's Muse has issued a catalogue of Churchilliana that, because we simply link to it, remains under his control thus allowing him to mark SOLD across items as they are purchased. In this way the catalogue both remains in tact and simultaneously reflects sales as they occur.
Dorothy Sloan's catalogues of Texiana are, as is her wont, carefully catalogued, Maria Hoogma's catalogue of Rare & Scholarly Books on Greek & Roman Classics ... and Douglas Stewart's London List round out the group. There is a logic to each.
In the fall we expect to offer new and very appealing on-line catalogue presentations.
